How “Can do” attitude could become dose of culture on smartphone – DailyArt

In the upcoming weeks I would like to present successful females from Poland and Germany. I believe it will be a hint of inspiration for each and every one of you. I would like to introduce to you first a young and inspiring girl on my blog Zuzanna Stańska. She is trying to change the perception of art with a mobile application which sends a painting together with additional information about it every day to your phone.

What is your application about and where did you get the idea from?

Daily Art ( is a mobile application which is available for Iphones, Ipads and mobile phones with an Android operating system. Every day we publish a new piece of art together with a short description in English and some additional information. This additional information is sort of short notes and interesting stories which explain the artist’s life dramas or affairs.

The stories of each piece are really based on true stories and touch our hearts it’s a really rich text, something you can’t find anywhere else, like wikipedia, and it’s more anecdotal which makes it very easy to remember. At the moment we have around 90 000 users from all over the world most of them are from the United States. The idea came about accidentally through analysing situation of education about history of art. Personally I have a Master’s in the history of art and I was lucky to take part in lessons about art at my high school. Unfortunately not so many people have knowledge about art because there are no lessons about this at school. Museums still have the status as the hosts of art and they are not prepared to educate casual people. I realised that it would be a very good idea to show everyone one painting every day with an additional easily understandable and memorable description.

The application was considered one of the twelve best education apps in 2012 by The Next Web. Are there a lot of competitors in this field and what are your plans for development over the next twelve months?

I would like to mention that there are two different things. DailyArt is one of my projects. Furthermore you can find a lot of other applications in the App Store or Google Play which are about art. Unfortunately most of them are designed only because you can easily find good quality reproductions of paintings for free on the internet. There are not too many applications which cooperate with art specialists and have a real educational value. On the the other hand my company Moiseum (, which I have been operating for two years, is about modernising museumsthrough technology projects especially mobile applications. There are not too many companies which care about museums and cultural institutions, cultural education or even culture and technology together. The main reason why is because everyone thinks that there are not a lot of funds there or you have to work really hard to earn any money from this field. Even though it’s not so easy it gives me a lot of satisfaction.

Is it difficult to be a woman developing your own idea of a company? It’s commonly thought that there are more men than women in IT ?

It was difficult but mainly because of my lack of knowledge and skills and t he very specific market which I chose (museums and cultural institutions combined with technology). After I learned all the important things everything started to go smoothly.

What does women’s entrepreneurship mean to you? Do you think you are a female entrepreneur?

Women’s entrepreneurship is something that happens when someone has a “can do” attitude and can manage a lot of things at the same time.

What kind of advice would you give to women who are not satisfied with their current job and would like to open their own company?

I would suggest that they do everything they can to feel happy about their work. If opening a company is what they want to do they should definitely do that. But first they need to find a good accountant and figure out how to earn money. They should be prepared that it’s not always going to be easy and nice.

What is yout recipe for success in tech?

You need to be very focused and not give up easily when things are not going on well or when you make mistakes. The second rule is to read a lot and learn. You need to know how to find a balance between work and your private life (friends, family, free time). Without this it’s very difficult.
